We’re used to animation having a more relaxed tone, for pure entertainment purposes. But it can also be a way to transmit a message to the public. In fact, animation can have the power to raise awareness and inform people about many issues. Currently, thanks to social media, animations can be shared and reach millions of people. The Scarecrow is one exemple.
One of the issues of our current society is the practice of industrial agriculture.
“The Scarecrow” raises awareness to this topic and attempts to stand up for a sustainable and eco-friendly agriculture.
Society has grown up so much that production levels need to be raised, and companies, consequently, seek to maximize their profit. In summary, animals are treated like just another commodity and croplands are no longer treated responsibly. In our daily life we ingest foods that are overloaded with chemicals.
The hero of this animation is a scarecrow. Curiously, the symbol of the protection of crops.
The video intends to incite the spectator to “Cultivate a better world.”
And…Back to the start
Similar to the previous theme, this animation also portrays the importance of developing a sustainable practice in livestock farming and appeals to social responsibility.
Chipotle Grill, ironically, a fast food restaurant, released both animations. This company intends to build a better world, one burrito at a time. It wants to raise awareness to the public about this issue in an entertaining way.
“Back to the start” was made using stop motion techniques. If you’re curious, take a peek at the Making of in the video below:
